About
Our Mission
StoveTec’s mission is to deliver clean and efficient cook stoves to the nearly 3 billion people that currently cook over an open fire or unimproved cook stove. 1.6 million people, 85% of which are women and children, die every year from inhaling the smoke emitted by open fires and unimproved cook stoves.
StoveTec also provides simple, sturdy, fuel efficient cook stoves for camping and outdoor kitchens, as well as emergency survival situations when traditional fuels may not be available or are in short supply.
30 Years of Reducing Pollution from Cooking
StoveTec Stoves replace dirty, polluting unimproved stoves and open fires, saving 40 to 50 percent of fuel and reducing 55 to 70 percent of harmful emissions. StoveTec has shipped over 70,000 stoves internationally over the past two years to countries including India, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Madagascar, Chile, Argentina, the Marshall Islands, and Haiti.
StoveTec was created as a not-just-for-profit entity to promote the use and adoption of technology created at Aprovecho Research Center (ARC). Wholly owned by ARC, profits from the sale of StoveTec products are used to help fund our mission to provide cleaner burning and cost- effective stoves to the billions of people in the world who need them most.
ARC has worked for 30 years to establish the world’s standard for improved cook stoves and has completed over 100 projects in 60 countries. Products designed by ARC now being sold by StoveTec include StoveTec Stoves as well as emissions monitoring equipment – the Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) and the Indoor Air Pollution/Exposure Meter (IAP Meter).
